TBT

I know that I’ve mentioned my love for Instagram before. I love it.

Instagram>Twitter>Facebook

If you don’t follow me on Instagram… well, you’re missing out. @stephn85

On Thursdays, some Instagram users take part in “Throwback Thursdays.”  I feel the need to explain that…but really, you should be able to figure it out on your own.

Here are my #TBTs for yesterday.

IMG_4232
Ty and me… cruise, Summer 2003.

IMG_4233
Ty and B (everybody together now… awwwww.) Their 6-month anniversary… Summer 2005.

IMG_4234
Christopher… I’m not positive but I would guess this is circa early 2011?
One of my Instagram friends mentioned that it looked like he had gotten into my stash of…um, let’s just say a certain illegal substance. Um, wow. There’s even a little plastic baggie right there and everything. I feel the need to EXPLAIN that he had gotten into those cabinets right next to him, which had a bit of a musty smell, so I had put a bag of baking soda in there to try to help the smell. It is NOT an illegal substance.

IMG_4235
And this cutie patootie? This is my husband! I asked him what age he was in this picture and he guessed 8, but then later said he may have been younger. UUM, Hello. Christopher looks more like Stephen than I realized.  That’s Stephen’s chihuahua Scooter with him. I don’t like chihuahuas (aka: rat dogs…sorry, chihuahua lovers) but I’m forbidden of talking bad about them because Stephen loved this dog and he died in a really sad way. I’m only halfway joking about the rat dogs part.

If you missed it… I actually already blogged once today! Scroll down or click –> Dora the Explorer, (alternatively titled Shoot Me Now.)

Happy Friday, people!

Dora the Explorer! (Alternatively titled: Shoot Me Now)

Christopher has these tendencies to get really into something for a few weeks/months, then completely drops it.

Shrek
Thomas the Tank Engine
Curious George
Mickey Mouse Club House
Elmo
Dino Dan
Toy Story
Dora the Explorer

REALLY?!? Dora the freaking Explorer? UUUGHHH. UUUM, I guess it’s better than Spongebob SquarePants??

How did that even happen?

I know that he watches TV at his daycare a lot. And I’m okay with that. If I were stuck in a house with 15 kids all day long 5 days a week, I’d have the TV on Nickelodeon, too.

We have instant streaming Netflix, so shows like Thomas, Curious George, and Sesame Street are all on there. When we pull up a show for him to watch, it will give us “suggestions” based on previously viewed shows. Apparently last week while Christopher was with my dad, he was going to watch something on Netflix but it suggested Dora and C asked to watched it “because that’s what he watches at Miss W’s house.”

And now it’s ALL HE WANTS TO WATCH. And I have freaking Dora songs stuck in my head all.day.long. Whether Christopher is here or not.

This follows a month straight of nothing but “Buzz Lightyear.”  Which followed a summer full of Dino Dan. When we were in Branson for our anniversary back in September, the Toys R Us outlet had a good deal on some Animal Planet dinosaur sets, and so we bought him like a million dinosaurs (which I KNEW at the time was a bad idea… I could just see myself (1) stepping on them and breaking either the toy or my ankle (2) constantly picking them up off the floor (3) throwing them away out of frustration …the list goes on and on.)

Anyway, the boy hasn’t even mentioned dinosaurs since we bought the dang things because that’s the weekend that Toy Story was introduced for him. He got all Buzz Lightyear crazy and watched it every single time we would let him.  We even changed our Halloween plans for him (TCU football player) and bought him a Buzz Lightyear costume.

A few days ago, I asked him what he was going to be for Halloween. His response? Dora.
UM, sorry bud. Not happening.

I do, though, love holding his hand while he watches Dora on Netflix on the iPad.
With his earphones on while I watch my own shows, of course.

purging my iPhone camera roll

HEY! Guess who’s up at 12:30, procrastinating homework (I always say I’m going to do it on Tuesday, yet somehow I’m always rushing it last-minute on Wednesday.)

This is pretty much an iPhone picture dump post. They need to go on here before they get lost in the black hole that is my iPhone camera roll.

IMG_0283
I can’t tell you when this day was exactly (well, I could if I went to enough trouble, but I’m not gonna) but it was obviously warm because he was wearing shorts. We had been outside playing and he said “Oh NO! Mama! It’s raining! I need my rain jacket!” and ran inside the house to grab this jacket. Love the imagination. =)

IMG_0326
“Mama, I wear dis.”

IMG_0415
Taken today. He was wearing only socks, undies, and a backpack full of toys.

IMG_0419
Jasper…I always find him sleeping in the funniest positions.

IMG_3983
I love these dogs SO much.

IMG_3984
Bath time is one of his favorite times of the day.

IMG_3985

IMG_3995
Was he ever really this small? When did he grow up!? This feels so long ago… yet also like it was just last week.

IMG_4002
My favorite wintertime treat. (I use mine in hot chocolate, of course.)

IMG_4017
We had a picnic in the back of the Murano one night at my parents house while we were waiting on them to show up. I still haven’t cleaned the crumbs out of the back of the car. This is a definite “CHEEESE” face. Ha!

IMG_4033
My 27th birthday.

IMG_4056
I dressed him this morning and brushed his hair… when he walked out of the bathroom, Stephen told him he looked like Sheldon Cooper. (If you don’t know who Sheldon Cooper is… please, for the love of all that is good, watch The Big Bang Theory. CBS. Thursday nights. 7:00 Central. You’re welcome.)

IMG_4058
Stephen, Christopher and I rode with my parents to Texarkana to meet with B and Ty for my birthday dinner.

Olive Garden. Lasagna Fritta. That is all.

IMG_4066
He decided he’d rather play in the gravel than ride his bike.

IMG_4067
Riding the “train” that my parents had at their house before Wheels & Wings. He loved this!

IMG_4069
He loves to go fast!

IMG_4130
I downloaded this a few weeks ago. Love.

IMG_4133
Baxey and Christopher…sweet friends. After 3 years, I think Baxter is finally getting used to Christopher.

IMG_4148
Playing at the park one day last week.

IMG_4164
I turned my back for two minutes and when I came back into the room they were both up on the couch. Spoiled.

IMG_4168
My mom and I did this last week. SO much fun stuff.

IMG_4211
Jasper just doesn’t realize that he is a 70-pound Boxer instead of a 10-pound lap dog.
A few weeks ago (the Tuesday before my birthday) we decided we needed to get rid of him (something we had tossed back and forth for several months) and a sweet family with two boys offered to take him as their new pet. When he walked away with them I had a panic attack. And I cried. For days. Not kidding. Stephen felt awful about it and we even discussed over the weekend the possibility of talking to the people and asking for him back. She texted me on Monday and said that they weren’t going to be able to keep him and asked if we perhaps wanted him back? I basically threw down the groceries I had just carried in from the store and jumped in my car and drove to her house as quickly as possible to get him. And I am SO SO SO glad that he is back HOME.

Happy Wednesday!

The Cruise

I am finally blogging about one of the big events that happened this summer. I have several things I need to document, the most important, of course, being Christopher’s birthday. BUT, back in May, Stephen and I went on a 5-day cruise with him mom and stepdad. Since it’s been almost 5 months since we did that, I’m going to go ahead and try to get that post taken care of before I forget everything we did.

We headed to Galveston on a Sunday morning. We drove straight there and stayed in a nice Best Western. I was feeling sick so we ordered pizza to eat at the hotel and then we walked across the street to a Walgreen’s so I could get some medicine. I was so worried I was going to be sick and miserable the whole cruise. Thankfully, I woke up the next morning feeling just fine!

I think I took a bunch of pictures at the beginning of the vacation, then slacked off over the course of the week. Oops.

This was my boarding outfit. I love this shirt. I wore it with white shorts.
On our balcony. We LOVE having a balcony on our cruises. I don’t think I could cruise without a balcony room!

05 21 12_1691

My mother-in-law, Deanna, and step-father-in-law, Leonard. Their room was two doors down from ours. There were several times that they didn’t answer their room phone and we would go out to the balcony and they would be out there enjoying the atmosphere and view! Deanna was anti-balcony before this cruise…now she says she can’t imagine having an interior room ever again!
05 21 12_1671

Goodbye, Galveston!
05 21 12_1672

Towel Animal. I think this would have been Night One? I think this is a lobster. Sometimes it’s hard to tell!

Dinner – “Cruise Elegant” Night Two on the ship.

Towel animal… Night Two. I have no idea what this is… any guesses?

Day Three of Cruising (Wednesday)
Progreso, Yucatan, Mexico
05 23 12_1590
05 23 12_1589

This was our first port of call. We chose to do a Mayan Ruins Excursion. There were two we could choose from – one that was a bus ride several hours away – Chichen Itza – which you may have heard of, and the other was just 30 minutes outside of Progreso. We chose the one that was closer. Deanna had been to Chichen Itza before and we didn’t really feel like going on a long hot bus ride.

This name of this ruin city is “Dzibilchaltun

That building you see waaaayy back there in this picture does something really neat at each solstice… or something like that. I could look it up but I’m too lazy today. I mean, at least I’m blogging, right? Anyway, important people in the field of something have tried to figure out how on earth the Mayans knew to build this certain structure where this really neat sunrise/sunset thing happens twice a year… or something. Sorry. It was really interesting in person, I promise.
05 23 12_1597

Mayan Pyramid. Later you’ll see a picture of me at the top of it.
05 23 12_1601

This is a fresh water pool. It actually has caves underneath it and divers have explored where the water comes from but they have never been able to find the source. I think that’s what our guide told us. Only the higher-status Mayan people were allowed to bath in this pool. It is also believed that this is where the Mayan civilization in this town got their fresh drinking water. Hopefully they took it from the opposite side of the pool from where the other people bathed. It was very pretty, but I didn’t get in. I’m really a swimming pool kind of girl. I’m not a fan of lakes, creeks, or even swimming in the ocean.
05 23 12_1606

Stevo at the top of some giant wall thing. The steps up there looks like maybe it was some gathering place where people might sit and watch something below…?
05 23 12_1610

View from the top of said giant wall.
05 23 12_1612

Yours truly.
Please don’t hate on my white hat. I get “sunsick” very easily and I was super concerned that I might get overheated and get a headache from hell and lose my yummy cruise breakfast all over Dzibilchaltun. So, I made sure to wear an awesome white hat, light clothing, Frogg Togg Towel, and big huge bottle of cold water. Better safe than sorry.

Me at the top of the pyramid.
05 23 12_1636

Towel animal, Night Three. What is this? An armadillo?
05 23 12_1658

Our next Port of Call was Cozumel, Mexico. This is my third time to visit Cozumel. All three times have been cruising. When Stephen and I went on our honeymoon, he really wanted to find a beach. I wanted to shop. So… we shopped. This time we beached. We went to a resort beach where we could snorkel, drink, paddleboat, water slide, (like a big inflatable water slide in the middle of the ocean… yeah.) …a bunch of other things. Want to know what I did? Parked myself under a coconut tree in a secluded area of lounge chairs and read Fifty Shades of Grey. Oh, yes. I had woken up that morning with some sort of horrible back pain that hurt so bad I had trouble rolling out of bed. I had brought along the Fifty Shades trilogy for the pure purpose of reading pleasure (pun intended. haha) and I think by this day I was near the end of the second book. So for almost four hours I read under a coconut tree in Cozumel. They were among the best four hours of my life. Right before we needed to leave to head back to the boat, Deanna paid for a twenty-minute back massage for me. Heaven! I loved it!

One of the best things about cruising is the room attendants. Your two room attendants take care of you. Make up the bed while you’re at breakfast. Clean up the bathroom. They always fold the toilet paper so that it’s all fancy schmancy with a tip at the end of it. (Sorry, I didn’t think to take photos of the toilet paper. Next time!) They vacuum, take out the trash, re-stock your mini fridge… you name it, they’ll probably do it! My favorite part of the day is coming in after dinner or the late show and finding the room with only the dim lights on, bed folded back, towel animal and chocolate mints waiting on you, with an itinerary of the next day’s events… I need a room attendant at my HOUSE to do all of those things!
05 24 12_1577

Night Four towel animal. Our chocolates were in his mouth. I don’t know what this is supposed to be either!
05 24 12_1578

Towel animal, Night Five – final night. Again, I’m not sure what this is. It’s something holding a baby.
05 25 12_1574

Over the course of the week I read Fifty Shades, listened to Adele, napped, ate, tanned, relaxed, drank Carnival’s signature “Kiss on the Lips” mixed cocktail (which I immediately re-created once coming home. YUM!) …slept more… It was my third cruise but it was by far the most relaxing and enjoyable cruise I have ever been on. It was a wonderful way to decompress after a semester of internship. It was a perfect way for Stephen and I to spend time together. We love cruising and if we ever win the lottery… well, we would probably go on two or three cruises a year!

 IMG_4076

I did miss Christopher SO SO much, but – in my opinion – cruising is just not the best vacation for kids. I want to take C to Disney World, snow skiing, water parks, adventure lands, theme parks, etc. But cruising is a “parents-only” trip for Stephen and me. At least until we have teenage children where I am not constantly needing to worry about where they are, who they’re with, and what they’re doing. It wouldn’t be the relaxing, care-free vacation that it is now if I took a toddler with me.

We did make two calls home from the ship. Halfway through the trip, on Wednesday, I called my brother because it was his birthday. I wanted to wish him a happy birthday from Mexico! I also asked him to let my parents know that I would be calling at 5:30 to talk to Christopher. When I called my parents later that afternoon, my dad told Christopher – “that’s your Mama calling!” and he immediately started saying “NO! I want to stay at Geegee’s house!” Umm… hello, he’d been there since Saturday evening! I told him he could stay at Granny’s but that I just wanted to tell him hi and I missed him. He talked to me (grudgingly) for just a minute and then hung up the phone, thankful that I wasn’t there to pick him up and take him home. (Thanks kiddo… I love you too!)  But, by the time we headed home on Saturday, he was ready to see me.

Note to self for next cruise: take more pictures.

The Proof is in the Pin!

Well Hellooo!! I’m linking up with Sarah at Life {Sweet} Life again this month! I know what you’re thinking… Girl’s got about a million more important things to blog about than Pinterest projects! And it’s true…I do. And I will. (I know. Same story, different day.)

Moving on.

This month I tried a few new pins. Yay me!

PerfectPolish1

First up: Perfect Polish Every Time – Perfect polisher, I am not. Especially when doing my toes. Or my right hand. And sometimes my left hand. Put lotion around your nail/cuticle and if you get polish on that area of the skin, it will wipe right off! Even if it’s been several minutes and “dried.” I tried this out and it worked. Score! Hey MOM! You should try this! =)

dryshampoo

Pin #2 Oily Hair “Dry Cleaner” – I’ve never used dry shampoo. My hair is oily 24 hours after washing it (thanks, Mother) so unfortunately I have to wash my hair every.single.day.  Well, unless I’m feeling super lazy and know that I’m not going anywhere that day and feel okay with having skanky oily unwashed hair at home. Anyway, I’ve never used dry shampoo. My mom told me once that they never worked for her, so I just chose not to waste my money trying them out. But recently I’ve head a lot about dry shampoo and thought about giving them a try? I saw this pin for homemade dry shampoo for oily hair so I figured why not? Three easy ingredients (and one of them is water.) I tried it… but I’m not really sure how to judge it. Are normal dry shampoos aimed at oily hair? I used this one afternoon when I was going to take Christopher to a local indoor play place after I had picked him up from daycare. I thought my hair looked less oily and it was okay for just running a quick errand out, like to the grocery store or somewhere for a few hours one day – but I’m not sure if it’s something that would work all day for me.

snickerdoodle

Pin #3Snickerdoodles – UUUHM. YUM.  I ran across this recipe one day and made them the very next day. I hadn’t had Snickerdoodle cookies in quite a while. I like the simplicity of them. Sugar cookies with a hint of cinnamon. These are REALLY good. I’ve actually made them twice since originally coming across the recipe. They’re soft, chewy, buttery… delicious. Plus they use ingredients that I always have on hand. It’s definitely something that’s going into my recipe book for many many future uses!

Here’s a link in case you missed my “Proof is in the Pin” post last month!
